In in the category of holidays we don’t need to celebrate but should, today (October 6th) is National Mad Hatter’s Day (names after the Alice in Wonderland character). According to the National Day website, it means we’re supposed to celebrate our inner (or outer) silliness!
The phrase “mad as a hatter” comes from the late 18th and early 19th centuries when hat makers used used mercury nitrate to cure their hat making materials. Unfortunately, too much mercury is no good for you – or hatters. Over time enough of these haberdashers developed mercury poisoning symptoms – which caused them to act “crazy” – and a new expression was born.
Well today, we can celebrate being silly – and maybe win a silly little prize too – a signed copy of Dinner for Two and a Starbucks Gift Card. All you have to do is tell us your favorite way of acting silly in the comments below. One random winner will be picked! Good luck and have a crazy weekend.
